The Leopold Art Gallery hosted Alan in December, 2016, where he read from his new, unpublished manuscript, Grinn’s Fairy Tales, Out Loud Stories.
Alan was a featured author for the Kansas City Literary Council’s annual gathering at the Plaza Library in September, 2016.

Alan read selections from his book The Sweden File: Memoir of an American Expatriate as a part of “Rhyme in the Roses” at Loose Park in June 2015.
Alan appeared as a featured reader, along with Maril Crabtree, in the Thomas Zvi Wilson reading series at Johnson County Community Library in October 2015.

Alan read with the River Cow Orchestra and the Kacico Improvisational Dance Troupe in October, 2014, at The Writers Place, and in July, 2016, at the Kansas City Ballet Rehearsal Hall.
On October 18th, 2014, Alan led a workshop entitled “Submitting Your Poetry – What Poetry Editors Crave” at the Columbia Chapter of the Missouri Writers Guild annual Conference.
